A QR code for a secured network contains the Wi-Fi password in an encoded—but not encrypted—connection string. Someone who can scan or decode the image can recover that password, even though guests do not need to type it.
Can you create a Wi-Fi QR code without a password?
Yes, but only for a genuinely open network. Selecting “No password” creates a code without a password field; it does not bypass security on a protected network. A guest network is safer than making your primary network open.
Which security type should you choose?
Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3 Personal for nearly all current home and small-business networks.
