TikTok's current public Account Safety article does not state that fixed acceptance range; instead, it recommends aiming for 12–15 characters and using uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

Use the live password-creation or reset screen as the final authority. This matters because consumer TikTok, TikTok Shop, and TikTok for Business can show different rules.

Does TikTok require a special character?

TikTok explicitly recommends symbols as part of a strong password, alongside both letter cases and numbers. Common versions of the consumer app prompt also call for letters, numbers, and special characters. A randomly generated candidate containing all four types is therefore the most compatible starting point.

Avoid predictable patterns such as a profile name followed by 123!. The presence of a symbol does not compensate for a short, reused, or easily guessed password.

How to reset a TikTok password

While signed in, open Profile, tap the Menu button, choose Settings and privacy, select Account, then Password and follow the instructions. From the login screen, choose Use phone/email/username, select Email/Username, and use Forgot password.

Changing the password logs the account out on other devices. That is useful if you suspect someone else has access. Keep both the linked email address and phone number current so you have alternative recovery methods.

Use a passkey and two-step verification

TikTok supports passkeys stored in a compatible password manager, allowing sign-in with the device's face, fingerprint, or passcode check. TikTok says it cannot access the biometric data or private passkey.
