Search Engine Optimization Rules

There are several stages in web site development during which special attention should be paid to how pages will be perceived by the search engine robots. Below are the steps taken specifically in creating this web site.

1. Readable web page content

   We made sure we followed all of the following:

   • Use <h1>, <h2> and <h3> for text headings
   • All <img>s have descriptive alt tags
   • No <frames> are used for main site navigation
   • All pages have relevant names (i.e. About page is called about.html and not X0982ADF.html)
2. <title> and <meta> tags

   We made sure valid, unique and descriptive <title> is used on every page. As well, we only used the required keyword and description <meta> tags and no other tags like owner or author.

   General rule regarding title, keyword and description tags (copied from Top Meta Tag Myths):

   • Title tag: 5 - 10 words, including the company name and relevant keywords, 90 characters with spaces (90 cws).
   • Description tag: Concise summary of the page, an upper limit of perhaps, 170 characters with spaces (170 cws).
   • Keyword tag: An upper limit of 900 characters with spaces - keep it simple and relevant. 10 - 20 Keywords per page (900 cws).

3. Selecting optimized keywords

   It is always best to choose only those keywords that appear in the page content itself. If this is not followed, search bots may blacklist the entire web site for spamming. There are several tools available online that will help you create that specific list of keywords for every page you wish to have published on the web.

Submitting Web Site to Search Engines

It is a very competitive business to stay in the top rankings with the top search engines. Even if you are ranked #20 out of 5000 it would still mean your link will appear on the second page of the search results that come up. There's little chance that your ad will get seen, let alone be clicked on.

The target result is to at least be in the top 10; and the absolute best to be in the top 3! That is what we will try with this web site, get up there even if an SEO expert needs to be hired.

As of 2006-11-03 we are only relying on WebCEO Software to submit and follow results on search engines. SEO is a lengthy process which we are tackling one step at a time.

Paid Advertisement and PPC programs are another way to go to increase your traffic. We will not go into much detail about this yet as we are still in the initial stages of our development.
